K.I.D.S. and Fashion Delivers Immediately Send Over $2.12 Million of New Product to Aid Victims of California Wildfires

Merchandise for Children and Families Flows Through Local Relief Agencies

NEW YORK, November 6, 2007 - Over $2.12 million worth of new clothing and merchandise – from blankets to shoes – was sent by Kids in Distressed Situations, Inc. (K.I.D.S.) and Fashion Delivers for distribution to children and families driven from their homes by wildfires in Southern California.

The initial shipments from K.I.D.S. and Fashion Delivers were sent in the days following the disaster to the San Diego Food Bank and World Vision Los Angeles. Both agencies are deeply involved in assisting California families whose homes were destroyed or who were forced to flee when their homes were threatened by the fires.

Among the items initially distributed were blankets, juvenile products, infants’ apparel, shoes, men’s and women’s shirts and assorted apparel for children and adults. The merchandise was made available in response to urgent requests for donations sent out by K.I.D.S. and Fashion Delivers. The largest donations thusfar were from RC2 Corp./Learning Curve Brands, Deckers Outdoor, Bounty Trading Corp. and Wrangler. (See Addendum for a list of the 36 companies donating thusfar.)

K.I.D.S., a global charity of retailers, manufacturers and licensors of children’s and youth products, first requested donations of children’s clothing and products on October 24, when the devastation caused by the fires reached disaster proportions. At the same time, a plea from Fashion Delivers, a charity affiliated with K.I.D.S., was sent to companies in the men’s, women’s and home fashion industries for donations of adult clothes, shoes, socks, blankets, and sheets.

"K.I.D.S. and Fashion Delivers continue to seek merchandise and arrange shipments to Southern California relief agencies as the impact on the lives of many poor and middle class families will be felt for months, or even years to come," said Janice Weinman, president of K.I.D.S. "Both K.I.D.S. and Fashion Delivers were founded in response to natural disasters – K.I.D.S. in 1985 and Fashion Delivers in 2005. And while we distribute new merchandise year-round to help children and families living in poverty, we continue to draw on the generosity and concern of retailers, manufacturers and licensors whenever a major disaster occurs."

The combined efforts of the two charities will culminate on November 27, when a truck will be filled with donated merchandise just prior to the Annual K.I.D.S. and Fashion Delivers Gala at The Pierre hotel that evening and driven to California the next day.
